Box 960001
Stockton, CA 95296-0710
WELL SAMPLE RESULTS FOR TURBIDITY, DEFENSE DISTRIBUTION REGION WEST (DORN),
TRACY, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Elevated metals concentrations have been found in some of the ground water
samples at the DDRW, Tracy site. The issue of whether these elevated
concentrations are due to turbidity, or whether these concentrations represent
metals ground water contamination, has not been resolved. In an attempt to
provide an independent resolution of this issue, the Regional Board collected
and analyzed ground water samples from five well pairs. In the 14 to 15
October 1992 Project Manager's Meeting, we stated that we would send out the
available laboratory results of ground water samples collected by the Regional
Board prior to the 10 December 1992 meeting on the well monitoring program.
The Regional Board collected samples from the following well pairs:
Well Pair Number Wells
1 LM-1, LM-75
2 LM-2, LM-61
3 LM-25, LM-85
4 LM-28, LM-62
5 LM-32, LM-58
These well pairs were selected because the wells are screened in the same
horizon and monitor the same waste management unit or area and because the
pair consists of an older and newer well . The ground water samples were
analyzed for the total and dissolved metals, standard minerals, turbidity and
suspended solids. The following metals were included in the analyses:
aluminum, arsenic, barium, boron, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, manganese,
mercury, nickel and vanadium.
We have enclosed copies of all available analytical results for these well
pairs. We have not yet received the analytical results for samples from other
wells. If these data are available by the 10 December 1992 Project Manager's
Meeting, we will provide copies of the analytical results at that time.
