Harlin Knoll, ,
From: Marcus Pierce [PierceM@rb5s.swrcb.ca.gov]
Sent: Thursday, March 15, 2001 1:44 PM
To: HKnoll@phs.hs.co.san-joaquin.ca.us
Cc: John Russell
Subject: New Supply Wells Near Tracy Army Depot and All Pure Chemical
Harlan,
I was at the Tracy Army Depot yesterday and Dale Clemens, remedial project manager for the Depot, showed me a few
new wells that he believes were installed adjacent to the Depot. These wells are located near the intersection of Banta
Road and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This area is probably outside any of the Depot's groundwater plumes, but
appears to be directly downgradient of the All Pure Chemical facility(now called Pioneer). Pioneer's primary COCs are
chloroform and carbon tetrachloride. Both of these CDCs have been detected in groundwater in the vicinity of these new
wells.
Can you please check your files for permits, logs, or any other pertinent info associated with recent well installations along
this part of Banta Road. We are concerned that people may be drinking water that is unsafe. We are also concerned that
any new wells in this area could provide some potential for cross-contamination of the local aquifer system.
If you are not responsible for permits in this part of SJC, please forward this email to the appropriate person. Thanks.
Marcus L. Pierce
Associate Engineering Geologist
Central Valley RWQCB
(916)255-3233
(916)255-3052 (fax)
1
