Page A-23, Section 7.3.3.4; This section states that a minimum five (5) foot <br /> seal will consist of tamped bentonite pellets or bentonite slurry. It is <br /> unclear how this will be accomplished, but depending on the method used, <br /> tamping could cause damage to the transition seal or the well casing. The top <br /> of the transition seal must be tagged with a weighted tape during placement to <br /> assure that the material is not bridging and that the targeted thickness has <br /> been achieved. In addition, placement of the cement grout seal subsequent to <br /> allowing adequate hydration of the bentonite pellets, will consolidate the <br /> transition seal . Therefore, tamping is unnecessary. <br /> 7. Page A-24, Section 7.3.4.4; This section states that soil samples collected <br /> for geotechnical analysis shall be stored in labeled, air-tight plastic or <br /> glass containers by the AE until such time as they are needed for testing or <br /> the contract is complete. Soil samples for geotechnical analysis should be <br /> collected in 6 inch brass or stainless steel tubes inserted into the split- <br /> spoon sampler. The tubes can then be sealed with plastic end caps, taped, <br /> labeled and stored without disturbing the soil sample. <br /> Statement of Work - Well Installation in Support of Remedial Design <br /> 8.
