Corrective Action: Revise the text to reflect more recent information.
48. Section 5.3.3
The text states that future risk to agricultural workers "only marginally exceeds
protective levels." However, the text does not substantiate this statement.
Corrective Action: Add text to substantiate this statement.
49. Table 5.2.1, Highest Groundwater Contaminant Levels Measured by WCC
This table contains many errors. Further, the table should use one consistent unit of
measurement.
Corrective Action: Rather than attempt to correct/revise this table, the ROD should
replace this table with the table EPA has recommended for Section 5.2 of this ROD.
50. Figure 5.1-1 (and Table 5.1-1)
SWMU No. 20 appears to be mislabelled.
Corrective Action: Compare the figure and the table and correct, as necessary.
51. Section 6.2.4.7.2
It is not clear why the ROD states "if the values for arsenic, dieldrin, and carbon
tetrachloride are not included in the calculation for the ingestion pathway, the
average cancer risk is 5.5x10-7 . . .
52. Section 6.2.5.2
The text which states "the contribution to the total estimated risk is substantial from
chemicals which are . . . not detected in groundwater (such as arsenic and dieldrin) . .
. but . . . are assumed to be present at half the detection limit, . . ." is not accurate,
and is misleading to the reader. Arsenic and dieldrin have been detected.
Corrective Action: Revise the text to reflect that elevated levels of arsenic and
dieldrin have been detected in concentrations which pose risk.
53. Section 6.3.1
The text states "no endangered species or habitat of endangered species are believed
to be affected by OU #1." However, a ecological assessment has not yet been
conducted at this Base. Further, this Base is possibly in the historical range of three
endangered species. Therefore, this statement is premature.
Corrective Action: Delete this sentence.
EPA/R9 June 7, 1993 13/40
