Draft RI/FS Amendments -3- 12 April 1993
DDRW, Tracy
OTHER CONCERNS
Monitoring Well Installation, Section A. 1.4. 1. This section states that monitoring
wells installed at UST or SWMU sites will have 10 feet of screen and will be
designed so the uppermost 1 to 2 feet of screen is located above the water table.
As previously stated in our 9 April 1992 letter, the water table monitoring wells
should be installed with 15 feet of screen and designed so the uppermost 5 feet of
screen is located above the current water table. This will allow for a wider range
of water table fluctuation without affecting the performance of the well to detect
light nonaqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) . UST monitoring wells installed below the
water table in deeper horizons may be installed with 10 feet of screen to remain
consistent with the existing (over 60) monitoring wells design. Monitoring wells
installed for the SWMUs should be constructed with 10 foot screen lengths for the
same reason.
JDT:jt
