Per the
terms of the FFA, EPA is providing comments within 30 days.
The results of analyses for organochlorine pesticides on
samples of groundwater from Well 1 showed levels of DDD, and DDE
above the EPA suggested action level of 0. 1 gg/L. Dieldrin was
also detected in these samples and although a Maximum Contaminant
Level (MCL) has not been established for this pesticide, the 10-6
risk level for Dieldrin is defined as 0. 002 µg/L. These
groundwater samples were retrieved at a depth below 515 feet,
which could indicate that a pesticide plume exists within the
Lower Tulare. These issues of possible contamination of the
Lower Tulare Formation need to be examined and addressed in the
Comprehensive RI/FS.
Several important issues which were mentioned in the
laboratory' s Summary in Appendix D are not covered within the
text of this document (see attached comments) .
Should you have any questions, please contact me at (415)
744-2392 .
Sincerely,
l
Michael Work
Federal Facilities Enforcement Branch
Office of Superfund (H-9-1)
Attachment
cc: (See Distribution List)
Prune„ Rencled Paper
