11. In several sections of the text, the report refers to the
highest detected level of total lead for this sampling round
as 0. 0492 mg/l at Well LM-25. However, according to the
tables showing analytical results in Appendix D and the
laboratory analysis sheets in Appendix C, the detected total
lead level for LM-13 was 0. 172 mg/l, more than twice the
level found at LM-25 and above the EPA AL of 0. 05 mg/1.
• Correct the text accordingly.
12 . Of the 51 wells that were sampled and analyzed for metals
using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) or atomic absorption
(AA) , 24 showed levels of total lead above the Proposed
State DHS MCL of 5. 0 µg/1 (see Appendix B of this review) .
• These exceedances of the MCLs should be emphasized in
the text.
Based on these results for total lead, there appears to be a
problem with lead in the groundwater on the site. Only one
off-site well showed concentrations of lead above the
detection limit of 5. 0 pg/l.
• Include a discussion of lead contamination in the text.
13 . The results of the analyses for metals showing total lead
have been used as an example of the potential risk involved
with metal contamination at the site.
• Metals data will need to be considered in the
development of the Risk Assessment for the site.
REPORTING FORMAT
14 . In order to provide for a more useful document, the format
for future submissions of data should be adjusted as
follows:
Table 2. 1 Add date of construction of wells
Table 2. 2 Add historic depth to water data
Table 2. 3 Add historic vertical gradient data
Table 2. 6 Use detection levels rather than "ND"
Table 2 .+ Include summary tables showing detected
levels of other constituents such as metals
15. Due to the haphazard arrangement of the laboratory data
sheets and other laboratory documents, correlation of data
presented in the text and in the tables with certified
laboratory data sheets and other pertinent documents was
time-consuming and difficult.
• All the laboratory data sheets should be arranged by
4 of 7
