Overall , the Report was well prepared and the summary tables
were very useful in reviewing the Report. The recommendations in the Report for
the investigation of each waste management unit (WMU) are generally adequate and
should provide for a thorough investigation of the soils and ground water at each
WMU.
However, we believe that the proposals for the investigations in some of the WMUs
needs to be reevaluated. We recommend that the soils investigations be more
adequately focused to the past waste disposal practices at a particular WMU. In
addition, we recommend that the soils and ground water investigations be separate
and conducted in a phased approach so that the analytical results of the soil
samples are used to determine if a ground water investigation is necessary for each
WMU.
We have enclosed a memorandum which discusses our comments on the evaluations of
the WMUs and the recommendations for additional investigations. We request that
DDRW, Tracy consider our comments in the preparation of the final work plan prior
to conducting the soils and ground water investigations of the WMUs.
If you have any questions, please call me at (916)361-5670.
CAMILLA WILLIAMS
Engineering Geologist
CKW:cw
Enclosure
cc: Mr. Michael Work, U.
