Burkett LTC, USA 5 •, ,
Director,
Office of Installation Services
Defense Logistics Agency
Defense Depot Tracy ENVIRU-`0L!\TAL HLALTH
Tracy, California 95376-5000 FERMIT/SERVICES
Dear Mr. Burkett:
RE: PART B SUBMITTAL DATE EXTENSION APPROVAL, EPA
NO. CA4971520834
This letter is in response to your letter dated December 21,
1987 , and to telephone conversations between Wess Harris of your
staff and Donald Shaulis of the Department of Health Services
(DHS) . Your existing hazardous waste storage permit will expire
on September 30, 1988 . Under the California Code of Regulations
(CCR) , Title 22 , section 66388 and code of Federal Regulations,
Title 40 (40 CFR) section 270 . 10 (h) , a facility is required to
submit a new application at least 180 days before the expiration
date of the effective permit. This would require Defense Depot
Tracy to submit a renewal application by March 31, 1988 .
You have requested a 180 day extension of the due date for the
renewal application. You have given two major reasons for
requesting this extension. One reason was the transfer of your
senior environmental officer to another installation. The second
reason was the need to include planned operational expansion in
the renewal application.
The planned operational expansion has been described as a
conforming storage facility for use by the Defense Reutilization
and Marketing Office, Stockton. The planned facility will be
used to temporarily (up to 120 days) store industrial waste
products generated by six Central California military bases.
For the above reasons , DHS , . under authority of CCR, Title 22 ,
section 66388 subsection C and the U.S. EPA under authority of 40
CFR section 270 . 10 are approving an extension of the application
due date. Defense Depot Tracy shall submit a new application to
the DHS and EPA on or before the close of business September 16,
1988 .
