This underground tank is permitted by the Department of
Health Services (DHS) to store hazardous waste generated by laboratory
experiments conducted within Building 247.
Approval is given to include the closure of this underground tank in the
financial document, but this does not indicate that the DHS has approved the
closure plan. As indicated in your letter, any additional planned
modifications should be 3dd.ressed under a separate letterhead at a later time.
In addition to the closure plan being approved by the DHS, the Hazardous Waste
Facility Permit must be modified. The modification will basically be the
removal of the permit language from the permit which indicates the 250 gallons
underground tank located adjacent to Building 247 is permitted to store
hazardous waste. A 45 day public comment period of the modified permit will
follow.
