SPECIFIC COMMENTS
1. Section ES.5.7, Page ES-6: The Report states that an evaluation is recommended to
verify the currently reported air flow rates and to determine why the air flow rates are
significantly lower than the design flow rates. Please provide a time line for these
activities.
2. Section ES.6.2, Page ES-7: The Reports lists recommendation for future activities. For
completeness, please include "repair flow meters and pumps, eliminate communication
problems, and fix any other operational problems at the treatment plants as soon as
possible" and "perform an evaluation to verify the currently reported air flow rates and to
determine why the air flow rates are significantly lower than the design flow rates".
3. Sections 1.1.2 and 1.1.5, Page 1-1: Section 1.1.2 indicates that there are 226 wells at
DDJC-Tracy, while Section 1.1.5 indicates that there are approximately 350 wells at the
Site. Please revise the Report to clarify this discrepancy.
4. Table 3.2-2, Page 3-5: The table does not include a discussion of all chemicals with
significant trends. For example, the increasing dieldrin concentration trend found at
LM106A is not discussed. For completeness, please include a discussion of all chemicals
that show an increasing concentration trend in the table.
5. Figures 4-3.1 through 4-3.8 and Section 3.2.1, Page 3-1: The figures show trends in
chemical concentrations over the last four sampling events. Long-term, statistically
determined increasing and decreasing trends are shown as arrows pointing up (increasing
trend) or down (decreasing trend) as agreed upon during the Tracy Remedial Project
Managers Meeting in October 2000. However, in almost all cases where an arrow
indicates a trend within the diagram showing the sample results, the long-term trend
indicated by the trend arrow contradicts the short-term trend of the displayed data. For
example, in Figure 4.3-3, for LM080A, the arrow points up although concentrations are
continually decreasing. Please expand the footnotes explaining the trend arrows to
reference the trend discussion and tables in section 3.0 so that readers are not confused by
the apparent discrepancy between the trend arrows, which represent long-term statistical
trends, and the short-term trends visible in the data.
4
