Our comments are attached. Some of our major comments are:
(1) Program objectives for 1998 should be revised to include
initiation of groundwater monitoring to comply with ROD-specified
objectives,
(2) EPA recommends that sampling frequency for some private wells with
VOC detections be changed from annual sampling to semi-annual sampling.
Wells with no contaminant detections can continue to be sampled
annually. Private wells, as potential points of exposure, deserve
special consideration for sampling frequency.
(3) EPA suggests a quarterly monitoring frequency for wells where VOCs
have been reported above MCLS in the previous year's samples, or if an
increasing trend is indicated, or if the well is near a site-related
plume (i.e. , PWO01 and PWO05) .
Please feel free to contact me at 415-744-2392 if you have any questions
or comments.
Sincerely,
f r
Michael Work
Federal Facilities Cleanup Office
Superfund Division (SFD-8-3)
Attachment
CC: (See Distribution List)
