Mr. Maurice Benson • - 2 - • 3 May 2010
Defense Logistics Agency
3. DLA should clarify the meaning of the text after the fourth bullet of the Conclusions
section of the Technical Memorandum:
The HydroPunch samples delineated the lateral and vertical extent of groundwater
contamination. Only one of 12 groundwater samples detected DRO (602 pg/L in
CP0949W003NS); this result is close spatially to shallower results in the same boring
(CP0949W002NS) and from a nearby boring (CP0948W002NS and CP0948W003NS)
which showed no detected contaminant concentrations. The focus of further
investigation (well construction) should be on first groundwater.
As written, it is false and makes no sense. Central Valley Water Board staff agrees with
the conclusion in the last sentence of this text, but the preceding sentences do not
appear to provide support.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (916) 464-4675, or by email at
jbrownell@waterboards.ca.gov.
R
James R.
