In response
this office provides the following comments.
High levels of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel and gasoline(TPHd and TPHg)including volatile constituent
(Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene; BTEX) contaminants have been detected in the soil to a depth in
excess of 31 feet (limits of overexcavation) below grade in the previous underground tank pit area and in samples
underlying previous piping locations. No "zero" line of delineation exists' for soil contamination at this site at this
I time as required by PHS-EHD.
You are hereby directed to submit a workplan that will propose investigative techniques that will provide
adequate data to delineate soil and/or potential groundwater contamination at this site. An adequate number
of borings and, if necessary, monitoring wells will be proposed along with'soil and groundwater sampling to ensure
that this phase of the investigation will be considered a diligent attempt to investigate and remediate the unauthorized
petroleum releases documented at this site.
Please submit the required workplan to PHS-EHD by June 15, 1995—
Failure to comply with directives issued by PHS-EHD will result in formal.actions which could jeopardize eligibility
to receive funds under the UST Cleanup Fund. l
Direct your submittals to PHS-EHD, attention Ron Rowe.
