Central Valley Water Board staff notes that the use of reinforced
concrete pipe as a conductor casing or protective barrier is not typical. However, because the
seepage berm will be constructed around the monitoring well, the use of reinforced concrete
pipe may be an appropriate choice.
With regard to the need for a permit from San Joaquin County for the proposed well
modification, based on a 6 January 2010 conversation with the San Joaquin Environmental
Health Department, a permit will be required for the monitoring well modification. Additionally,
because the monitoring well will be located within the seepage berm, the proposed monitoring
well modification (construction method and materials) should also be discussed with the
Reclamation District or agency responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of
the seepage berm.
Therefore, the addendum is conditionally approved provided that:
1. All necessary permits are obtained through San Joaquin County, and
2. The proposed monitoring well modification meets the requirements of the Reclamation
District or agency responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of the
seepage berm.
Please submit a Monitoring Well Modification Completion Report within 60 days of
implementing the workplan. The report needs to include well construction details and well
survey information.
California Environmental Protection Agency
P d Recycled Paper
