PHS/EHD has prepared the following comments for your consideration and
response.
The Work Plan included a proposal to initially advance five soil probe borings to determine the lateral and
vertical extent of hydrocarbon impacted soil and/or groundwater. The soil borings were to be drilled to a
depth at which groundwater samples were to be collected. Groundwater is anticipated to be 40 to 45 feet
below groundwater surface(bgs). If groundwater is impacted, the work plan included a second scope for
the installation of a minimum of three monitoring wells.
Please note that PHS/EHD strongly recommends that should the extent of soil contamination not be
defined with the proposed five soil borings, that additional borings be drilled and sampled, during the same
mobilization. Additionally, you should be aware that the dispenser was located within the shop building
and will require investigation. The Work Plan indicated that selected soil and groundwater samples would
undergo laboratory analysis. Please contact PHS/EHD prior to submittal of the samples to discussion the
selection of samples for analysis.
Please contact the State Water Resources Control Board Cleanup Fund Unit to obtain pre-approval of the
proposed work incorporating PHS/EHD's comments and required modifications. Please proceed with
submittal of the PHS/EHD drilling permit and$89 fee. Once the permit is issued, please contact
PHS/EHD,at least two working days prior to the scheduled field work,so that a PHS/EHD inspection of
the field activities may be scheduled.
If you have any questions or wish to schedule a field inspection, please contact me at(209)468-0337.
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
JLt
Mary Meays,Senior REHS Margaret Lagono,REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM/MS W/HARRYWEBER
cc: Elizabeth Thayer,Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
cc: Bob Marty,Advanced GeoEnvironmental.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
