31 January 1997
AGE-NC Project No.97-0298
certified laboratory for analysis.
8. Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization
detector(PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
9. Log borings in.accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. -
10. Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State-certified laboratory for TPH-g, BTE&X
and MTBE in accordarce'with the appropriate EPA if, iethods. Selected soil samples may
also be released to a State-certified laboratory for analysis of intrinsic permeability, moisture-
content, porosity and total organic carbon in-accordance with'theappropriate EPA/AST'M
methods.
11. Complete each soil boring in a ground water monitoring well..Each well will be completed
using two-inch diameter PVC casings and twenty feet of 0.02-inch screen:A filter pack(42
Loriestar Sand)will be installed from total depth to two feet above the screened interval. A
two Toot bentonite plug tivill be installed over the filter.pack and the well will be grouted to
the surface with Portland Cement. A traffic box will be installed with each well.
12. Cuttings will be stored in properly labeled 1) O.T. model 17.11 55-gallon. drums on-site
pending laboratory analysis and disposal.
13. Rinseate generated during drilling activities will be coiitainerized in properly labeled D.O.T.
model 1714 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area inaccessible to the general public.
14. Develop new monitoring wells utilizing a submersible pump until water is essentially
sediment free.
15. Survey the top of each well casing to the nearest 1/1 06th of a foot to determine the elevation
relative to a single well.
16. No sooner than 48 hours after installation of ground_,.eater monitoring wells, measure to the
nearest 0.01 foot, the static water level in the new wells.
17. Using a dedicated bailer or submersible pump, surge and purge all wells. At least three well
volumes of water will be removed from each well to stabilize temperature, pH, and
conductivity; stabilization parameters will-be measured at one-well volume intervals.
18. Ground water samples will be collected using polyethylene disposable bailers; samples will
be collected in 1-liter amber bottles and-40-m1 VOA vials preserved with hydrochloric acid.
19. Label and log water samples on a chain-of-custody.'form.
20. Store the samples in a chilled container and transport-under chain-of-custody procedure to
a State-certified laboratory for analysis. Water samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d
BTE&X and MTBE,in accordance with EPA methods 5030/8015m,5030/8015m,8020/602
