' October 31, 2000 Harding Lawson Associates <br /> 51543 Our new name is Harding ESE, Inc , a MACTEC Company <br />' Margaret Lagorio, Supervising REHS <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br />' Page 2 <br /> PHS/EHD requested that this additional closure be submitted concurrently to the Regional Water Quality <br /> Control Board, Central Valley Region (RWQCB) The PHS/EHD letter indicated that they are preparing <br /> documents to request concurrence from the RWQCB for a"no-further-action-required"determination for the <br />' above referenced Site This letter report includes the following additional closure information <br /> • A map showing the locations of wells identified in the DWR well survey(Plate 3), <br />' • Table 1 summarizing the information from DWR well logs, <br /> • Locations of active production wells located on Newark property (Plate 2), and <br /> + Copies of well logs identified in the DWR well search and available logs for onsite production wells <br />' BACKGROUND <br /> In 1998, Harding ESE performed environmental investigations at two areas within the Newark facility One <br />' of these areas consisted of the two Number# 6 fuel underground storage tanks(USTs)and an adjacent sump <br /> located within the courtyard of main plant building(Plate 2) The second area consisted of a210,000-gallon <br /> Number 6 fuel oil UST located in the southeast corner of the Newark facility(Plate 2) For a detailed <br /> lie <br /> presentation of the Sites history and the results of these investigations, the reader is referred to the above- <br /> referenced reports (Harding ESE, 1998a and 1998b) In addition, as previously requested by PHS/EDA in <br /> their February 25, 1999 letter, Harding ESE presented mass calculations and a compilation of monitoring <br />' well data in the September 30, 1999 report(Harding ESE, 1999) <br /> 2000-FOOT WELL SURVEY AND PHYSICAL WELL SEARCH <br /> I <br />' On October 9, 2000,Harding ESE performed a record search at the DWR of all available well logs for wells <br /> located within 2000 feet of the two Newark site investigation areas(Harding ESE, 1998a and 1998b) These <br />' wells are plotted on Plate 3 and the numbers refer to those listed on Table 1 Relevant information including <br /> the owners name and address, listed well address information, year drilled, well type, and screened-interval <br /> depths are summarized in Table 1 With the exception of the logs for the four onsite monitoring wells (MW- <br />' 1 through MW-4 shown on Plate 2), copies of the well logs are attached as Appendix A Well logs for the <br /> four onsite monitoring wells were not on file at DWR These four monitoring wells are associated with the <br /> 210,000-gallon UST formerly located in the southeast corner of the Site (Harding ESE, 1998b) The location <br />' of these four wells are identified on Table 1 and on Plate 3 with the number 17 <br /> On October 17, 2000, Harding ESE staff performed a field inspection to potentially locate any addition wells <br /> within a 2000-foot radius that had not been identified during the DWR record search Prior to the inspection, <br />' Harding ESE measured a 2000-foot radius from the two Newark site investigation area and plotted these on <br /> Plate 3 Harding ESE's field inspection consisted of walking and locally driving through the area within the <br /> 2000-foot radius Harding ESE looked for evidence of wells in the front and side yards, and where visible, <br />' the back yards of residences along streets located in the specified radius No additional wells were identified <br /> during Harding ESE's October 2000 field inspection <br />
