Cotulla, R.S.
San Joaquin Local Health District
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95201
RE: WORKPLAN FOR PIEZOMETER INSTALLATION- GOLD BOND
BUILDING PRODUCTS, STOCKTON,CALIFORNIA
Dear Ms. Cotulla:
On behalf of Gold Bond Building Products, American Environmental Management
Corporation (AEMC) is pleased to submit to the San Joaquin Local Health District
(SJLHD) the followingpermit application, fees and workplan for installing three (3)
piezometers at the Gold Bond Building Products facility, 800 West Church Street,
Stockton, California. Proposed piezometer locations are shown on the attached figure.
The installed piezometers will be utilized to determine the prevailing direction of shallow
ground-water flow in the vicinity of a 5,300 barrel capacity fuel storage tank located in the
southeast corner of the site. The information generated will provide the rationale for
siting permanent ground-water quality monitoring wells around the tank, and support the
preparation of a ground-water quality monitoring plan for the tank.
Well borehole drilling and sampling operations will be conducted by Spectrum
Exploration, Inc., Stockton, California. California-Licensed Contractor Questionnaires for
both AEMC and Spectrum Exploration Drilling, Inc. are attached. Once the well permit
has been approved, a representative from Spectrum Exploration Inc.will sign the
application at the SJLHD's offices. Hollow-stem auger drilling and well construction
methods will be used to complete each piezometer. Each piezometer borehole will be
drilled to an approximate depth of 21 feet below ground surface to accommodate a 5 foot
well screen. The entire length of the borehole will be continuously togged, for the purpose
of describing the vertical variations in the soil profile encountered. The collected soil
samples will also be examined for visible staining. All soil cuttings generated by the
borehole drilling and sampling operations will be contained and stored onsite.
Materials to be used for construction of the piezometers will include 2-inch I.D.
interior/exterior flush threaded PVC Schedule 40 casing and well screen. Well screen
perforations will be precision machine slotted. Screen slot sizes will be 0.20 inch.
Screen/casing strings will be threaded together. Filter pack material will be clean,
rounded,water-worn silica material, and will be installed, by a tremie pipe, into the
annular space adjacent to the well screen section. Within the annular space above the top
of the filter pack material, a 2-foot thick bentonite seal will be placed as a seal using
9719 Lincoln Village Drive,Sulte 501,Sacraments CA 95827/(916)364-8872
