SITE ASSESSMENT AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Sample results are summarized in Table 1. Results are only shown
for constituents detected, complete analytical results are
presented in Appendix 1, Laboratory Analysis Results. As can be
seen in Table 1 , low levels of contamination were detected
beneath all the tanks, except Tank D.
Considering the depth and location of the samples, the only
possible environmental and/or health threat of contamination
onsite is to groundwater. The Department of Health Services has
promulgated State Action Levels (SAL) for drinking water for
Benzene, Dichlorobenzenes, and Toluene. These levels are 0.7,
130, and 100 parts per billion respectively. The Central Valley
Regional Water Quality Control Boards (RWQCB) suggested desig—
nated level for Benzene in soil to protect groundwater is 700 ppb.
No levels exist for total hydrocarbons.
Comparing the soil sample results to the SALs , only the levels in
soil for Benzene are above the SAL. The soil sample results are
well below the RWQCB 700 ppb designated level. Although ground—
water is shallow at the site (less than 30 feet), the soils are
fine grained, thus affording attenuation capacity. Additionally,
the sample results show that Benzene contamination is limited in
areal extent, only being detected beneath tanks A and C.
5
