At the time of the inspection EHD
staff noted that the facility has an on site septic system that serves 28 employees. Since
ground water is a source of drinking water, subsurface waste disposal is regulated under
the United States Safe Drinking Water Act.
EHD has implemented a Local Agency Groundwater Protection/Underground Injection
Control (UIC) Program in accordance with guidelines prepared by the United States
Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). The primary focus of the program is to
protect drinking water by identification and evaluation of subsurface disposal of waste
fluids that may lead to the degradation of drinking water supplies.
Septic systems that serve 20 or more people per day are considered shallow injection
wells. Please submit to EHD a description of your septic system and the fluids placed in
it. Following review of the information submitted, EHD may request modifications to
wastewater disposal activities at your site.
Enclosed is an "Inventory of Injection Wells" form to be completed and submitted to
USEPA in San Francisco (address on page 2 of form). Please submit a copy of the form
to EHD with the information requested above.
If you have any questions contact me at (209) 468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising REHS
Unit IV
Enc.
