I-3.4.3 Fire Extinguishers
At least two fire extinguishers(minimum rating 2A:IOBC)are provided and maintained for
immediate use by CSA personnel to extinguish small fires.
I-3.4.4 Safety and Decontamination Equipment
Personal protective equipment for emergency response is maintained in the spill kit,as described
above.
An emergency eyewash and shower station is located in the CSA (shown in Figure I-3-2).
I-3.4.5 Communication Equipment
One telephone is located at the CSA Facility. Figure I-3-2 shows the location of the telephone.
During emergencies, this phone can be used to notify the Site 300 Fire Department or Site
Management, to request resources and assistance, or to initiate evacuation procedures.
Facility operations personnel wear radio pagers. During an emergency, they can be paged as a
group with a"Group 7"on their pagers along with the telephone number to call for instructions.
I-3.5 EVACUATION OF THE CSA
The CSA Facility Representative or alternate, senior Fire Officer, IC, or Site 300 Manager or
designated alternate can order the evacuation of the building and adjacent area if, in their
judgment, a hazard or potential hazard exists. In general, telephone or radio announcements or
directions by the person in charge will be issued. The Site 300 Emergency Self-help and
Facility-Level Emergency Plan is followed during the evacuation.
Personnel assemble at predetermined evacuation assembly points, making sure they are upwind
or in a safe zone. Figure I-3-3 shows the plan of the CSA with the designated assembly point.
Individual discretion is used if it appears that evacuating the building would increase the
potential for injury.
I-3.6 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
The provisions of this Contingency Plan are to be carried out immediately whenever there is a
fire, explosion, or release of hazardous waste constituents that could threaten human health, the
environment, or property.
Facility personnel implement the following procedures:
• The Facility Representative contacts the Fire Department IC immediately by
dialing extension 911.
• If the Facility Representative is not immediately available, and if the individual
who discovered the incident determines that the assistance of the Fire Department
IC is required, that individual reports the situation by dialing extension 911.The
caller stays on the line to describe the location and the extent of the incident.
• Facility personnel assist the Fire Department IC by providing information to
identify the character, exact source, and amount of hazardous waste involved in a
CSA emergency incident. (This information is available in the Facility operations
log.)
LLNL Site 300 Contingency Plan 1-3-15 January 2019
Appendix 1-3. CSA
