Main Street
Ripon, CA
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed our
file, the "Monitoring Report Second Quarter 2002" dated November 27, 2002, the
"Monitoring Report Third Quarter 2002" dated December 11, 2002 and the
"Feasibility Study Report" dated December 12, 2002, prepared by ATC
Associates, Inc. for the above referenced site.
The boring log for CPT1 ends at 16 feet below surface grade (bsg). The water
sample from this probe was collected at 45 feet bsg. This work was to
investigate the vertical extent of the groundwater contamination. The boring logs
for the monitoring wells showed clay soil at 40 feet bsg. The extent of the clay
layer was to be determined and a water sample was to be collected from the next
water bearing zone as requested by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board staff. Provide EHD with any information you have to confirm that
the water sample was collected in a permeable zone.
NESTLE, located at 230 Industrial, Ripon, has investigated a solvent
contaminant plume from their site and has installed many monitoring wells. They
have identified a "B Aquifer" from approximately 25 to 70 feet bsg (Figure 3 from
a report is enclosed). Other information from that site may assist in the
evaluation of this site.
A pump test was conducted in July 2002 at this site, since completion of that
groundwater extraction the concentrations of contaminants in the groundwater
from MW 1 have remained lower than they were prior to the pump test. The
"Feasibility Study" discusses installation of a groundwater extraction well near the
southern edge of the former tank location. The levels of contamination in the
groundwater from the monitoring wells at this site are low. However, there is a
City of Ripon drinking water well about 300 feet from the site that has a first
screen interval from 50 to 65 feet bsg. Therefore, further reduction of the
groundwater contaminant levels is necessary.
