in KLEIN FELDER
File No 20-3769-01
January 3, 1995
Theg roundwater elevations for December 16, 1994 data indicated a groundwater gradient
of approximately 0 0485 ft/ft toward the north/northeast The groundwater flow
direction was found to be consistent with the previous assessment sounding data The
groundwater gradient is slightly steeper compared with previous soundings
Monitoring Well Sampling
A groundwater sample was collected from monitoring well number 3 (MW-3) on
December 16, 1994 The sampling protocol for each monitoring well was as follows
+ The depth-to-water was measured using a conductivity-based water-level meter
(protocol described in the previous section)
+ The volume of water mallons standing in the well was calculated by subtracting the
g g
depth-to-groundwater measurement from the known depth to the well bottom and
multiplying by the cross-sectional inside area of the well casing
C A transparent single-use disposable bailer was lowered approximately half way into
the surface of the water standing in the well and then withdrawn to check for a
petroleum layer or sheen on the water
• A minimum of three well volumes of water was then purged from each well using a
single-use disposable bailer A new disposable bailer was used to purge and sample
each well
• Electrical conductivity, pH, and temperature were monitored w1ule purging The
water quality measurements were recorded on purge-and-sample logs along with the
time and volume of water purged at each measurement The pH meter was calibrated
per the manufacturer's directions prior to purging each well
• Samples were collected after purging by decanting samples from the disposable bailer
directly into bottles provided by the analytical laboratory
• Samples requiring filtration were filtered in-line, directly from the disposable bailers,
using a positive pressure hand pump and a 0 45-micron high capacity field filter
Groundwater samples were decanted directly from the filter attached to the bottom of
the disposable bailer into bottles provided by the analytical laboratory
ETH and WC195 Page 3 of 5
Copyright 1995 Kleinfelder Inc
