in KLEINFELDER
3 BACKGROUND
The following information was summarized from numerous discussions with Mr Dan Silva
and Ms Michelle Manan of West Clay Properties
On May 31, 1990, one 1,000-gallon underground storage tank was removed from the site
by Triangle, Inc At the time of the tank removal soil samples were obtained by Cal Water
Labs of Modesto, California The results of analyses performed on the samples obtained
revealed hydrocarbons to be present in the soil beneath the former tank location
On October 7, 1993, the product line running from the former tank location to the dispenser
(located dust off the southeast corner of the shop building) was removed Samples were
obtained during the removal by EMCON Associates of Sacramento, California The results
of the analytical testing performed on the samples obtained revealed only trace
concentrations of some fuel constituents
DSS Engineering Contractors subsequently excavated approximately 550 cubic yards of
hydrocarbon-affected soil from the UST excavation However, the limit of the affected soil
was not able to be ascertained Soil was excavated to a depth of approximately 38 feet in
some areas (approximately 7 feet from groundwater)
Based on the presence of hydrocarbons near the groundwater surface and the need for better
P Y
definition of the volume of hydrocarbon-affected soil, a soil and groundwater assessment
proposal was requested by Mr Silva
This report presents the results of Klemfelder's Soil and Groundwater Assessment at the
site
1
i
ETH and WC194
Copyright 1994 Kleinfelder, Inc Page 5 of 11
