(1580 North Fourth St. , San Jose, CA Report #E6576. 001)
The facts are that the site never was seriously polluted. During
the removal of a UST under a permit in 1987, the contractor
inadvertently punched a hole in a diesel tank, and some oil
escaped. The spill was cleaned up and the oil contaminated soil
was removed. Groundwater was encountered, and subsequently tested,
showing some motor oil contaminates (the tank had previously
h contaminated oil) . Three monitoring wells were installed, and have
been monitored several times in 1987 and 1988 .
When we met about a year ago, you suggested taking another test of
the monitoring wells, and were particularly interested in apparent
inconsistencies in the direction of the ground water gradient. We j
were delayed until a couple of months ago, first because of fill
from an adjacent project being temporarily stored on the site, then
for wet ground during the winter. Two of the monitoring wells were
difficult to find because they were not exactly as had been
indicated in the earlier reports. I personally located the wells
accurately (I am a Civil Engineer) and Terrasearch reviewed the
previous work. New tests were conducted in June, and the new tests
were negative, as were the previous tests. In addition, the
gradient was consistent with the previous work, once one previous
error was corrected.
E
I
