Commerce Street
Stockton, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the work plan dated August 12,
1994, prepared by John P. Cummings & Associates, for the above
referenced site.
Details on the construction of the monitoring wells were not
included in the work plan (i .e . length of screened casing, length
of blank casing, depth of filter pack above the screened interval,
bentonite plug, type of grout) . Please submit a diagram showing
the details of the monitoring well construction.
The work plan states that the monitoring wells will be drilled to
approximately 50 feet or ten feet into the saturated zone whichever
occurs first . If groundwater is at 45 feet below grade as you
anticipate from information from a nearby site, then the monitoring
wells should be drilled to at least 55 feet .
The methods of analysis for the samples are not specified. The
methods to be used are listed in the Tri-Regional Recommendations
Table 2 (enclosed) . The samples should be analyzed for Benzene,
Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
gasoline, diesel, and motor oil .
The handling of the soil generated during drilling was not
discussed. Please submit an addendum to the work plan that
discusses the disposition of the soil generated.
Please be advised that pH, electrical conductivity, and temperature
reading are to be taken during purging of the monitoring wells and
the samples are to be taken when the readings have stabilized.
The map provided in the work plan is not to scale so the distance
between the monitoring wells cannot be determined. Please ensure
the monitoring wells have enough distance between them to calculate
the site specific gradient .
A Di%ision of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
