'
,

modified and constituent volatile aromatics, benzene,
ethylbenzene, toluene and total xylene [BETX] using USEPA
Test Method 8020.
6. Remediation Steps : Mr. Anderson has retained Jim
Thorpe Oil, Inc. to undertake the next phase of this cleanup
project. After consultation with SJPHS/EHD and Jim Thorpe
Oil, Inc. , Mr. Anderson has decided to remove as much of the
contamination remaining beneath the tank pit area as possible
by over excavation. The proposed excavation will start
approximately 10 feet south of the north end of the original
excavation and extend northward a distance of approximately
20 feet. The new excavation will extend 10 feet from the
center line of the orginal tank location to the east and
west. The plan is to excavate to a depth of 20 feet and
adjustments made if necessary. The resulting excavation will
be approximately 20 feet wide by 20 feet long by 18 to 20
feet deep. No pipeline excavation will necessary as the
piping and pump were located directly over the north end of
the tank. The total amount of soil excavated will be
approximately 300 cubic yards. Every effort will be made to
separate contaminated soil from the clean. Clean soil will
be stored on the south side of the property and contaminated
soil will be stored on the north [see drawing]. Spoil will
be placed on plastic sheeting and covered with same. After
an actual volume and contamination levels are determined,
decisions can be made as to the best method of disposal or
treatment. Plans for final disposition of soil will be
submitted to SJHS/EHD for approval.
7. Soil Sampling : Soil sampling will be accomplished
by retrieving samples from the appropriate areas with the
excavator bucket. Samples will be taken from the bucket by
GeoAnalytical Laboratories representitive on site. All
sampling and analyses will follow LUFT guidelines and be
transported by GeoAnalytical representitive directly to their
Laboratories, located in Modesto, CA under chain of custody.
Samples will be tested for TPH-D and BTE & X. We propose to
take 4 sidewall and 2 bottom samples from the excavation.
Samples will be taken equidistant around the perimeter and
along the length of the bottom of the excavation [see
attached drawing]. Locations of the samples may change at the
direction of SJHS/EHD representitive on site. We propose 6
samples ( 12 discrete to form the 6 composits) from the spoil
pile at the direction of the SJPHS/EHD representitive. The
total number of samples may be altered if conditions or
volumes warrant a change.
8. Temporary Fence : A temporary fence will be placed
around the excavation until backfilled.
