The Year 5 (2011) tree monitoring results are presented
below for each of the six tree planting sub areas. A tabular summary of tree survivorship
and health and vigor data for Year 5 (2011) is provided in the table in Appendix A. A
comparison of health and vigor and tree survivorship rates for Years 2007,2008, 2009,2010,
and 2011 is presented in Tables 4-1 and 4-2.
For details on 2007,2008, 2009,and 2010 tree survivorship and health and vigor ranks by
planting sub area, refer to the Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 Phytoremediation Tree
Monitoring Reports for the Source Area at the SFPP, L.P. Holt Release Site, Holt, California
(CH2M HILL 2008a, 2008b, 2010a, and 2010b).
Photographs of all planting sub areas were obtained during the annual tree-monitoring field
visit to document tree system health and performance and are provided in Appendix B. For
comparison,Appendix C contains photographs of site conditions prior to improvements in
2001 and of the planting areas during 2006 and 2007. The approximate location of the three
planting zones is depicted in Figure 1-3. The location of the six tree planting sub areas is
shown in Figure 1-4.
TABLE 4-1
Tree Survivorship by Monitoring Year
Year 1 (2007) Year 2(2008) Year 3(2009) Year 4(2010) Year 5(2011)
Percent Percent Percent Percent Percent
' Planting Site Survivorship Survivorship Survivorship Survivorship Survivorship
Area A 93% 88% 86% 93% 88%
Addition to Area A 97% 100% 97% 100% 100%
Area AA 96% 96% 96% 100% 100%
Area B 90% 86% 96% 96% 96%
Area C 80% 80% 93% 93% 87%
Area D 78% 82% 80% 78% 76%
Average Percent
Survivorship(All 90%* 90%* 91% 93% 91%*
Sites)
NOTES:
*The average Year 2(2008)survivorship rate is 89.6 percent(rounded in Table 4-1 and Appendix A to 90
percent).
This is essentially the same as observed in Year 1 (2007). The overall survivorship rate in 2007 was 89.5
percent.
Limited tree replanting was conducted in 2007 and 2008. Replanting caused survivorship averages in some parts
- of the site to increase between Years 1 through 3.
In planting areas Addition to Area A and Area A,trees that were damaged in the 2009 windstorm and counted as
SACI4203071113570001 IYEAR5-2011 HOLTTREE_MONITORING-REPORT-FINAL.DOCxI 4-1
