November 28, 1995
Mr. Russ Vinyard
Stockton Mortgage
6820 Pacific Avenue Suite 1B
Stockton, CA 95207
Subject: Report of Site Assessment Activities
Countryside Market
10848 Copperopolis Road
Stockton, CA
Project No. 95041
Dear Mr. Vinyard:
In accordance with the terms of contract number 95041, Upgradient Er"onmental Consultants has
attempted to remediate gasoline-contaminated soil at Countryside Market, located at 10848
Copperopolis Road. The work was conducted on October 31, 1995. Tl a purpose of this letter is to
report the results of the investigation. We will forward a copy directly to Mr. Steve Sasson at San
Joaquin County Environmental Health.
INTRODUCTION
In August 1995, Upgradient Environmental Consultants, under contract to Stockton Mortgage Co.,
submitted a workplan to assess the extent of soil contamination at Countryside Market. At the request
of Stockton Mortgage, Upgradient submitted an addendum to the workplan on October 9, 1995. The
addendum was approved by Mr. Steve Sasson of San Joaquin County Public Health Service,
Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD).
PREVIOUS WORK
Countryside Market is located in eastern San Joaquin County, approximately two miles east of the city
limits of Stockton (Figure 1). It is our understanding that two 1000-gallo'p leaded gasoline tanks were
removed from the site in March, 1993 (Figure 2). After removal, the excavated soil was returned to the
tank cavity, but the site was not re-paved.
Four soil samples were collected from beneath the tanks and analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons in
the gasoline range (TPH-g), BTEX, ethylene dibromide (EDB), and total lead. Concentrations of 770
to 6,500 mg/kg TPH-g were detected, and BTEX, EDB, and lead were detected at elevated
concentrations in one or more samples. Because the levels exceeded approved concentrations, further
assessment of the extent of contaminated soil was reqeusted by PHS/EHC .
II,IIID
DEL' 0 6 1995
EMpEEMRI5Ef2 IICEES
