Mr. James L.L. Barton • Former Countryside Market
October 19, 2011 Stockton, California
• Underground Services Alert will be notified at least 48 hours prior to drilling to clear
underground utilities in the proposed drilling location;
• SGI will retain a private utility locator to clear the proposed drilling locations of
underground utilities and other possible subsurface obstructio s; and,
• The SJCDEH, and other necessary parties will be notified of roposed field activities at
least three days prior to initiating field work.
SENSITIVE RECEPTOR SURVEY
A sensitive receptor surrey will be conducted within a 500-foot radius of the Site. The survey
will include a review of historical files located at the Department of W ter Resources (DWR) and
CRWQCB. The survey will include a detailed review of environm ntal databases (procured
from Environmental Data Resources or EDR) and a door to door survey (within the
neighborhood directly adjacent and immediately down-gradient ofll the Site) to identify any
private wells that may be utilized for domestic purposes.
Once all surrounding domestic wells have been identified and acce s agreements have been
procured from property owners, SGI will collect groundwater water samples from each well.
Domestics wells well be purged for approximately one hour or until three well casing volumes
have been removed. During purging, water parameters including pH, temperature, conductivity,
dissolved oxygen and turbidity will be monitored to note stabilization of each parameter and
ensure that groundwater representative of the aquifer is entering the well. Samples will be
collected through the faucet and slowly decanted into a laboratory provided containers to be
submitted to a State-certified laboratory for analysis. The samples will be analyzed for TPHg,
BTEX compounds, and 7 fuel oxygentae compounds (MtBE, TBA, EDB, DIPE, EtBE, TAME,
and 1,2-DCA) using United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Method 8260B.
DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLING i
SGI will supervise the drilling, soil sampling, and installation of five monitoring wells at the
proposed locations shown on Figure 2. Drilling will be completed using a CME-85 hollow stem
auger drill rig (or equivalent) equipped with 8-inch diameter augers and operated by a
California-licensed drilling contractor. Prior to drilling, the locations will be cleared by hand-
augering and post-holing to five feet bgs. The augers will be steam-cleaned between each well
location to prevent cross-contamination from previous sampling even s.
Five borings will be completed to approximately 100 feet bgs. Soi samples will be collected
from the borehole using a split-spoon sampler loaded with clean 6-inch brass sleeves for
sample retention. The end of each sample sleeve will be covered with TeflonTM sheeting,
capped with plastic end caps, labeled with a unique sample numt er, date of collection and
sample location and depth, and placed in an ice-filled cooler. Soil ampling will be conducted
