L
SOIL INVESTIGATION
LSprint Communications Company
Stockton Switch Facility,
Y
3807 Coronado Avenue
.; Stockton, California
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the underground storage tank (UST) soil sampling
investigation conducted by Riedel Environmental Services, Inc. (RES) at the Sprint
Communication Company's Stockton Switch Facility located at 3807 Coronado Avenue in E
Stockton, California (refer to Figure 1). The purpose of ',the investigation was to determine
whether the native soils surrounding the abandoned 6,006-gallon diesel UST pit have been
impacted by diesel fuel.
1.1 Site Conditions
The subject site is an active communications switching facility. In August/September 1994, a
new 10,000-gallon UST was installed adjacent to the previously existing 6,000-gallon UST to $
replace the facility's emergency generator fuel supply. Upon switching the emergency fuel f
delivery system to the new UST, the 6,000-gallon UST was removed. The concrete tie-down j
slab underlying the UST was left in place. At the comp iletion of the UST installation and
removal activities, the old UST pit was backfilled with the 'excavated materials. A diagram of
the site is provided as Figure 2. 1
An emergency cooling water supply well is present at the site approximately 90 feet to the south
of the UST excavation. The well log completed by the drilling contractor during the drilling of
the well in November 1993 indicated that "clay and hardpan" was encountered from 15 to 115
feet below grade and that permeable sand zones were present in the intervals from 115 to 125 E
feet, 160 to 168 feet, 170 to 180 feet, and 207 to 235 feet: A depth to ground water of 72.8 I
feet below the top of the well casing was measured prior to is well production test conducted in
December 1993. Ground water elevation monitoring has not been conducted since the pump
test.
4185\CBW4\5PRINT.RPT\70Cr% 1
L
i
