`' 1-./
2.3 Sample Preparation
r
Soil samples were prepared/preserved in the field for subsequent laboratory analysis. The ends
r of each sample tube were sealed with Teflon film, plastic end caps. and tape. The samples were
then labeled, logged onto a chain-of-custody record, and placed in a cooler containing dry ice
for transport to a State of California certified testing laboratory.
2.4 Site Cleanup
r
At the completion of drilling, the boreholes were backfilled with grout in accordance with San
Joaquin County regulations. Ms. Diane Hinson of the SJCPHS witnessed the grouting of the
boreholes.
r
3.0 SAMPLE ANALYSES
Upon completion of the field sampling, the soil samples were returned to RES' office in
Richmond, California. On 29 September 1994, the cooler containing the soil samples was
transported to Superior Analytical Laboratory located in Martinez, California. Chain-of-custody
documentation accompanied the samples from time of acquisition until delivery to the laboratory.
The samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) by EPA Method
3510/8015 and the fuel components benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) by
EPA Method 8020.
The results of the laboratory analyses indicate that TPHd and BTEX compounds were not
present in the soil samples at concentrations above the detection limits. A summary of the
results of the soil sample analysis is presented below in Table 1. Laboratory data sheets and the
accompanying chain-of-custody record are provided in Appendix D.
TABLE 1.
