LawrShce Livermore NationsLaboratory
Environmental Protection Department
March 21, 2006
Dear Site 300 Friend:
This letter is to let you know that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory (LLNL) have scheduled a public meeting on the environmental restoration of the
LLNL Site 300, focusing on the alternatives and proposed plan for cleanup of the Pit 7 Complex. The
Pit 7 Complex is located in the northwest part of Site 300 and contains a number of landfills where
waste from site explosives testing was placed in the past. Contaminants released from the landfill have
been found in nearby onsite groundwater. There are no indications that contamination from the Pit 7
Complex has migrated to ground water or other environmental media outside the Site 300 property.
The meeting will start at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 5h and be held at the Tracy Community Center,
300 East 10th Street in Tracy, California. The purpose of this meeting is to provide you with a brief
summary of the proposed plan to clean up contamination at the Pit 7 Complex and to obtain any
comments you may have on this plan.
A fact sheet is available upon request that summarizes contamination and the proposed cleanup actions
at the Pit 7 Complex. This fact sheet may also be viewed at the LLNL Environmental Public
Information website: http://www-envirinfo.11nLgg /. A more detailed description of this contamination
and remedial cleanup alternatives that were considered is presented in the Remedial
Investigation/Feasibility Study for the Pit 7 Complex. This document is available at both the LLNL
Visitors Center in Livermore and the Tracy Public Library.
Written comments on the Proposed Plan for Environmental Cleanup of the Pit 7 Complex may be
submitted during the public comment period of March 21"to April 21St. Please send any written
comments to Claire Holtzapple, the DOE project manager for environmental cleanup at Site 300, at the
Livermore Site Office, P.O.
