' dedicated pumps installed in accordance with the water yield of each well. Hydraulic
testing will be done to measure the hydraulic conductivity and transmissivity of the
' water-bearing materials intersected by each well. Water samples will be collected
quarterly and will be analyzed by EPA Method 601 or 624 as appropriate.
A work plan for preparation of a feasibility study will be submitted upon
tcompletion of the remedial investigation.
TASK 5 - REMEDIAL ACTION AT B815 AND GSA
' We anticipate that agency approval of the feasibility study of the B815 and GSA
will be complete by May 1989, and that remedial action, if required, will begin
immediately. A work plan describing remedial actions will be prepared following
' completion of the feasibility study.
TASK 6 - FEASIBILITY STUDY AT THE PIT 7 COMPLEX
' Purpose and Rationale
' The purpose of this task is to complete a feasibility study of the Pit 7 Complex by
December 1988. Since 1982, LLNL has conducted extensive investigations of soil, rock,
and ground water contamination in the vicinity of the Pit 7 Complex. These investiga-
tions have shown that two overlapping tritium plumes exist in a shallow water-bearing
' zone; one emanates from Pit 3 and the other from Pit 5. In addition, a smaller plume of
TCE also emanates from Pit 5. The limits of these plumes have been determined.
' Procedure
To complete a feasibility study of the Pit 7 Complex, LLNL intends to evaluate
' courses of action with respect to tritium and TCE in soil, rock, and ground water in the
area.
Recommendations will be presented in a Remedial Alternatives Report.
' Monitoring of the TCE and tritium detected in this area will continue on a quarterly
basis.
' TASK 7 - REMEDIAL ACTION AT THE PIT 7 COMPLEX
If required, remediation of the Pit 7 Complex will begin in February 1989. A work
plan will be prepared, if required, before implementation of the remediation plans.
tTASK 8 - REMEDIAL INVESTIGATION/FEASIBILITY STUDY AT THE EAST FIRING
AREA/13850
' Purpose and Rationale
' The purpose of this task is to complete the remedial investigation of the East
Firing Area (EFA)/B850 by December 1988. A feasibility study will be completed by
December 1989. In 1984, landfill monitoring wells at Site 300 revealed the presence of
tritium in ground water. The tritium levels were in excess of State of California drinking
' -7-
