■ Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
February 8, 1994
Ms. Diane Hinson
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: Annual Renewal of Permit to Drill Monitor Wells and
Exploratory Boreholes at LLNL Site 300
Dear Ms. Hinson:
Please find enclosed a completed Application for Permit to drill ground
water monitor wells and exploratory boreholes within Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory (LLNL) Site 300 boundaries.
The permit authorizes drilling of ground water monitor wells and
exploratory boreholes on LLNL property as we deem necessary. The permit
will be effective for one year.
I have enclosed the $89.00 Permit Application Filing Fee for this blanket
permit for monitor wells and exploratory boreholes at Site 300. As in the
past, I would appreciate your sending the approved permit
application directly to me rather than to the drilling contractor. Also
as in the past, the monitor wells will be constructed following the San
Joaquin County Public Health District rules and regulations for well
construction. We will continue to notify you of well drilling so that you may
witness the installation of the sanitary grout seals.
The monitor wells and exploratory boreholes that we plan to drill at Site
300 will be located in Sections 14-17, Sections 20-22, Sections 26-29, and
Sections 33-35 of Township 3 South, Range 4 East.
It is LLNL's position that local regulations are inapplicable to Federal
facilities such as Site 300. Application for this permit, however, is made in
order to expedite the environmental restoration activities at Site 300 and
does not constitute acquiescence to San Joaquin County's asserted
jurisdiction in this matter, nor shall it waive any legal rights LLNL might
have.
An Equal Opportunity Employer•University of Califomia•P.O.Box 808 Livermore,Califomia 94550•Telephone(415)422-1100•Twx 910-386-8339 UCLLL LVMR
