KLE/NFELOER
1 UNDOCUMENTED SOIL CHARACTERIZATION
1.1 Sample Locations
Stockpile Area
A total of 17 soil samples will be collected and analyzed from six areas measuring
approximately 285 feet x 200 feet and one area approximately 285 feet x 180 feet as
shown on Plate 3. The soil samples will be collected from each of the five grid areas at a
depth of 2 feet within the soil piles.
Soil beneath the Soil Piles
Soil samples will be collected from a single borehole advanced using a hand auger/slide
hammer tool at seven locations (one for each grid area on Plate 3). The proposed
number of and sample depths are:
• Seven soil samples at ground level or interface between the bottom of the soil
pile 0-6 inches,
• Seven soil samples 12-18 inches, and
• Seven soil samples 24-30 inches.
A total of 21 soil samples will be collected. At this time Kleinfelder proposes to only
analyze the 0-6 inch soil sample and hold the deeper samples pending the need to
analyze the deeper samples based on the results.
Background Soil Sampling
Two soil sample locations will be used to assess background soil conditions in areas
where the former LTU had not operated. Soil samples will be collected at three depths
from each location based on the use/depth of the former LTU (1 foot, 2 feet, and 3 feet)
from the soil boring to analyze background conditions (six total). The boring locations are
located outside of the former Ll-U area, approximately 100-200 feet west of the aqueduct
service road near the southeast corner and eastern portion of the site (Plate 2).
Laboratory Analyses
Each soil sample will be analyzed for the following constituents:
128328/SAC14R0267 Page A-3 of 8 July 12, 2013
Copyright 2013 Kleinfelder Revision 2-February 14,2014
