V
Environmental Health Specialist from the LEA. All soil samples will be taken by a certified
laboratory technician and tested for TPH Diesel (8015) and BTEX(8020) at a certified
laboratory.
The excavation will be left open until the soil test results are known. The tank
removal/excavation area will be ramped on the north side for excavation equipment access, and
the area will be encircled by a safety fence while the excavation remains open. Pending test
results, no additional excavation will be required should results indicate a level of non-concern. If
results indicate a level of non-concern, a certification of remediation and permission to backfill the
tank removal/excavation area will be requested from the LEA by the Department of Public
Works. Once approval to backfill the excavation area has been given, the excavation area will be
filled with clean soil and properly compacted to eliminate settling. The surface will be graded to
promote positive drainage from the area.
Should test results indicate diesel contamination remains, plans for further remedial action will be
determined based on sample results if deemed necessary by the LEA. Possible options might
include further excavation, or a determination through computer modeling that the site does not
pose a threat to the environment.
All contaminated soil removed and stockpiled will be remediated onsite using aeration and/or
bioremediation. All contaminated soil will be placed on an impervious plastic layer and turned
biweekly at a minimum. Soil sampling will be performed as determined by the County project
engineer. The soil will be deemed successfully remediated when soil test results indicate a level of
non-concern. The Department of Public Works will then request that the LEA allow the
remediated soil to be used as road subbase at the landfill site, and consider the underground
storage tank facility remediation complete.
R:\WES\CMCLOSE\TANKPROP.UST
LA 21523
