' • k`■ KLEINFELDER
' elements, ion, compounds, or groups of compounds, oils and greases are defined by the method
used for their determination." In summary the method used for the O&G determination will not
' only report oil and greases but also other similar compounds including biological lapids, mineral
hydrocarbons, etc.
Because discolored soil with a petroleum odor remains in proposed residential lots (northern
sidewall of LEC) Fitzpatrick Homes has indicated that they wish to excavate the affected soil.
' Kleinfelder additionally recommends excavation along the eastern sidewall were O&G results
are elevated. Kleinfelder recommends confirmation soil sampling in both these area using a
more specific extractable hydrocarbon analyses.
' 6.1.3.3 STOCKPILE , POTHOLE AND WELL BORING SAMPLING
' Five 4-point composite samples were collected from soil excavated from SE-B. The five
composite samples were analyzed for a generally more comprehensive suite of analyses (See
Section 5.1.2) based on landfill acceptance requirements and to assess potential contaminants.
' Only a single BTEX constituent xylenes was found in one composite samples at 5.8 µg/kg.
Extractable Hydrocarbons as referenced as diesel and oil were also present TPH-D
' concentrations ranged from 4.3 to 9.7 mg/kg. TPH-O concentrations ranged from 19 to 23
mg/kg. Oil and Grease by SM 5520E, was not detected at or above laboratory reporting limits.
Four of five LUPI' metals were detected (Cr, Pb, Ni, and Zn), but at concentrations below the
' TTLC and STLC Regulated Level for classification of the metals as a hazardous waste per
California Code of Regulations 22CCR §66261.24.
A single soil sample was collected from each of four potholes (PH-1 through PH-4) located
around the perimeter of LE-C. The soil sample was analyzed for purgeable hydrocarbons, BTEX
and O&G. None of these constituents were detected at or above laboratory reporting limits.
' A single soil sample collected at depths of 4 or 7 feet bgs was also collected from each of four
well borings located around the perimeter of LE-C. One of the well boring (TW-2) is also
situated just northeast of SE-B. These soil samples were analyzed for purgeable hydrocarbons,
O&G, 5 oxygenates and 5 LUFT Metals.
Three of five metals (Cr,Pb and Zn) and one oxygenate(MTBE)were detected from one or more
' of the four soil samples submitted for analyses. MTBE was detected at 0.30 mg/kg from
temporary well boring TWl at an approximate depth of 7 feet. No purgeable hydrocarbons or
BTEX constituents were detected at or above laboratory reporting limits.
The three LUFT metals detected (Cr, Pb, and Zn) were found to be at concentrations below the
' TTLC and STLC Regulated Level for classification of the metals as a hazardous waste per
California Code of Regulations 22CCR §66261.24.
In summary it appears that these perimeter discrete soil samples collected from the potholes and
well borings are none detect for petroleum constituents with the exception of trace levels of
' MTBE found in one of the well borings located southeast of LE-C. The metal results found in the
204341-11.E01/201IR959 Page 27 of 31
Copyright 2001,Kleinfelder,Inc. August 21,2001
