.► 1"W
R&B Trucking
Preliminary Site Assessment
Page: 4
—
Impact on the environment will be minimal for both plant and animal life. Only when
diesel is sprayed on the leafy portion will it cause serious effects to plants.
—
4.0 ASSESSMENT WORK PLAN
The following sections describe the proposed activities for the initial assessment of the
petroleum hydrocarbons released at this site.
4.1 Approach
Ground water is very shallow in the Tracy area, generally ranging from 10 to 15 feet,
and has a northerly flow component towards the delta. Ground water was not
encountered during the tank removal sampling,so the exact depth of ground water at
this site is not known. However, it is a safe assumption that the water table is within
a few feet below the tank closure sampling depth(11 to 14 feet). With this in mind,
Geological Technics proposed to initially install one soil boring/monitoring well near
the center of the tank cluster(near tank#5-see Figure 3).
Soil samples will be collected at 3 foot intervals starting from the bottom of the
excavation,approximately 11 to 14 feet,down to ground water. If possible,a sample
will be collected from the capillary zone, right above the water table, for analysis.
These samples will be analyzed for total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (as
diesel) at ChromaLab in San Ramon, California.
The second aspect would be a first level one property investigation, which is a field
inspection of the site. Since the property was used for a trucking operation, there are
_ potential spots that could pose a problem(i.e.,where above ground fuel was stored,
cleaning, solvents,or other chemicals).
The third aspect of the preliminary site assessment is to perform a risk assessment.
Based on the information obtained during the tank closure sampling level one property
investigation, and the ground water monitoring phase of the preliminary site
assessment,Geological Technics proposes to perform a risk assessment to evaluate the
risk to human health and safety if exposure to the compound that may occur at the site.
This will only be performed if hazardous waste is found.
