L
Property at 30600 South Corral Hollow Road
Tracy, California
Exploratory Excavation for Re-Sample
Work Plan
L
1.0 PROJECT IDENTIFICATION
This work plan has been developed to investi ate a former underground storage tank
P P $ 8r 8
facility 30600 South Corral Hollow Road in Tracy, California (Figure 1). The scope of
work proposes to explore the vertical and lateral extent of diesel, gasoline and petroleum
constituents having been released to the soil in the vicinity of the recently removed
underground storage tanks and associated piping. The objective of the proposed work is
to capture all of the contaminated soil using equipment better suited for excavations
beyond the tank removal phase.
1.1 Site History
Shortly before the requirements for double walled tanks, eight single walled
underground storage tanks were installed at this facility. The tanks were in
operation from about 1985 to 1994.
LOn or about March 18, 1998, SEMCO obtained a tank closure permit and
removed all eight, 12,000 gallon underground storage tanks from the subject
property. Soil samples were obtained at various depths (15 feet maximum) from
under the tanks, piping and dispenser islands (Figure 2). The soil samples taken
under the tanks and dispensers near the southeast portion of the facility disclosed
the highest concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons (Appendix A).
2.0 SITE WORK PLAN
SEMCO, with the assistance of M.J. Kloberdanz & Associates, proposes to enlarge the
previously excavated area, around the former fuel tanks and dispenser islands, in an
attempt to define andpQ jdrX remove the petroleum contaminated soil. The approximate
extent of the area to be excavated is shown in Figure 3. The depth of the excavation is
L expected to be limited to 25 to 30 feet. Soil samples will be screened with a portable PID
during excavation, with laboratory samples taken of the floor and side walls once a clean
interface is reached. The soil sampling will be conducted in accordance to appropriate
! sampling protocols, and samples will be sent to a State certified lab. The soil type will be
L• logged during the excavation by qualified personnel working under the direction of a
registered geologist.
L
