Llow
DriUin
The soil borings will be completed using a truck-mounted drill rig with hollow-stem augers.
Undisturbed soil samples are collected by driving a split spoon sampler past the bottom of the
Laugers.
-- The drums
will be stored on site pending characterization for proper disposal.
Soil Samnling and On-Site Screening
During the completion of each boring, soil samples for laboratory analysis will be collected at 5-
foot depth intervals beginning at 5 feet BGS to the maximum depth of the boring. Each sample
Lwill be collected using a California split spoon sampler fitted with brass liners. The sampler will
be driven into the soil in front of the drill bit to collect undisturbed samples. Generally, three
samples from each depth interval will be collected; one for laboratory analysis, one for on-site
field screening (headspace analysis) and one for geological observation.
Preparation of samples for analysis will involve first covering both ends of the filled brass sleeve
with teflon sheets, and then sealing with plastic end caps. The samples will then appropriately
labelled and placed in a cooler with "Blue Ice". Sample identification numbers will be recorded
Lon a Chain-of-Custody form.
fydro=ch MethodolM
Hydropunching will be conducted utilizing a HydroPunch II groundwater sampling system.
The HydroPunch II is a specifically designed sample tool that provides hydraulic continuity
with the adjacent water table. The sample tool is pushed into the proper zone (approximately
5-foot submergence for groundwater sampling), then withdrawn to expose an inlet screen.
The top of the screened interval (0.01 or 0.02 inch screen size to minimize turbidity) shall
j remain above the groundwater contact in order to capture potential volatile organic
lr. compounds. Once withdrawn, the interior of the sample tool fills with water. When the
HydroPunch is recovered, check valves prevent the sample from draining. The point remains
• in the ground. A 1" O.D. teflon bailer is then lowered through the hollow push rods and body
Lof the HydroPunch II to collect a water sample.
TETRA TECH:Castle Rock Forest Fire Station,Revised Technical Work Plan Page 8
