' kq KLEINFELDER
5 0 CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the results of Kleinfelder's limited soil and groundwater assessment, the following
' conclusions can be made
1 No soil contamination was detected in any of Kleinfelder's samples analyzed
2 No groundwater contamination was detected in any of Kleinfelder's samples analyzed
' However, as dewatering for the project recommences, undetected groundwater
contamination from the adjacent Shell site or other unknown sites may be discharged
Additionally, extensive pumping may also affect the size and location of the Shell
' groundwater plume, causing additional remediation costs and potential increased liability
3 Typical depth to groundwater in this area of the project is generally 10 - 12 feet bgs,
irrespective of local pumping Please note local pumping and tidal fluctuations can affect
' the depth to groundwater
4 Typical groundwater flow in this area of the project is generally towards the north,
irrespective of local pumping Please note local pumping can affect the direction of
' groundwater flow
5 The additional geotechnical considerations for the proposed project are detailed in a
separate report
' Based on the conclusions noted above, the following recommendations are being made
A Although no soil contamination was detected in this area of the project, and none is
anticipated to be encountered during construction in this area of the project, periodic
confirmation testing is recommended Although no soil contamination was detected, the
excess soils should not be reused on residential properties or at a location adjacent to, or
' in contact with, surface waters (e g levees)
B Although no groundwater contamination was detected, groundwater contamination could
' conceivably be encountered at a later date Efforts should be made to reduce the amount
of dewatering discharge so as to reduce or eliminate the nsk of impacting the Shell
plume, and it is suggested that as a precaution, discharge not be made to a surface water
' body or the storm drain system
C Additional research is being conducted on properties in this area to potentially
supplement Kleinfelder's investigation If that research warrants, an addendum to this
report will be issued
D This report should be submitted to Mr Mike Infurna, R E H S of the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services Department Environmental Health Division (PHSIEHD) for
' review and comment
1
28699 EOI /ST03R627 Page 7 of 8
' Copyright 2003,Klemfelder,Inc April 22,2003
