The USTs removed included
three that contained fuel, three that contained new oil, and one that contained waste oil. During the removal of the
USTs, released gasoline was detected in the soil samples that were collected.
Consequently, SJCEHD directed an investigation of impacted soil and groundwater that began in 1991. This
investigation continued until early 2013. Concurrently on several occasions, gasoline-contaminated soil, soil vapors,
and groundwater were excavated/extracted and treated/disposed. These active measures, along with the naturally
occurring subsurface degradation, have reduced the concentrations of residual gasoline detected in the water
samples collected from the site.
Recently, the SJCEHD reviewed and evaluated the Site's soil and groundwater conditions. This evaluation included
an assessment of the human health and/or environmental threats that may result from the residual gasoline that
remain in the subsurface. The SJCEHD concluded that the residual gasoline does not represent a present or future
threat to human health or the environment. Consequently, the SJCEHD submitted a Case Closure Summary to the
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) in August 2013. The RWQCB concurred with the
SJCEHD's closure recommendation. The SJCEHD intends to issue a"No Further Action Required" letter for the
subject Site, after all the remaining case closure activities have been completed.
WHERE TO GET MORE INFORMATION-
Information about the investigation is available on the GeoTracker website at http://geotracker.waterboards.ca.gov/.
Upon written request, the Site's case file is also available for review at the SJCEHD office located at 1868 East
Hazelton Avenue, Stockton, California 95205. An SJCEHD file review request form can be obtained from the
SJCEHD website at http://www.sicehd.com/docs/Public%20Records%2ORelease%2OApp.pdf.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Interested individuals have the opportunity to learn more about this case and the pending closure by submitting
comments to Ms. Lisa Medina of the SJCEHD by 20 December 2013.
