5Aj
NOR
4_0 RESULTS
Sample numbers for in-situ samples are explained In Table 1 and precise sample
locations are shown in Appendix B. Sample analytical results are shown in
Table 2.
c ,
4.1 NEW UST EXCAVATIOM
r^ Organic constituents (TPsi-gasoline, BTEX components, ethylene dibromide) were
not detected in any of the in-situ soil samples from the excavation for the
? new fuel USTs. Total lead was detected at concentrations of 0.97-6.8 mg/kg
jf (ppm). Subsequent evaluation of lead solubility by Waste Extraction Tests
(WETs) determined that those samples which had total lead in excess of 5 ppm
had soluble lead concentrations of 0.043-0.10 mg/L.
The total lead results are typical for San Joaquin Valley sites and probably
represc7nt background inorganic lead, a natural constituent of most soils. The
lead WET resu%s are far below soluble threshold limit concentrations (STLCs)
for lead (5 mg/L).
j 4.2 EXISTING FUEL PIPING AND UST EXCAVATIONS
Hydrocarbons were detected as TPH-g at concentrations up to 3,500 mg/kg (ppm)
in in-situ samples from the fuel UST excavation. Concentrations were greatest
along the southwes' ern margin of the excavation (Samples SST-2-S and 5ST-3-S),
a where fuel pipes exited the excavation. STE.X components were also detected in
! in-situ samples from this excavatio
n. Hydrocarbons were detected as TAH-g at
k concentrations up to 677 mg/kg (ppm) in in-situ soil samples from the fuel
r
:i pipe trenches. Ethylene dibromide was detected beneath both ends of Tank 3
lr (leaded gasoline) at concentrations of 0.9 and 6.2 sjg/kg (ppb) but was not
i detected in the fuel pipe trenches. Total lead was also detected in samples
from beneath Tank 3 (leaded gasoline) at 4.4 ,d 9 k
f ar .5 mg/kg (ppb). Subsequent
WETs determined that this lead was present at soluble concentrations up to
0.30 mg/L, well below the lead STLC. Wet results for lead from samples in the
1 fuel pipe trenches ranged From 0.08 to 0.94 mg/L, also well below the lead
5
'4:ENG:9199/041591
J
