1 <br /> ' 02 October 2000 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 98-0465 <br /> Page 3 of 9 <br /> ' accordance with the PHS-EHD-approved Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan dated 29 <br /> December 1999 <br /> ' 3 1 DRILLING AND SAMPLING <br /> ' In July 2000, four pilot soil borings were advanced at the site The soil bonngs were advanced using <br /> a CME-75 drill ng, equipped with 8 25-inch diameter hollow-stein augers to advance borings MW 1 <br /> through MW4 The drill rig and two-man crew were supplied by Cascade Drilling Auger returns <br /> generated by drilling were stored on-site in properly labeled D O T-approved model 17H 55-gallon <br /> dreams, pending laboratory analysis <br /> Soil samples were collected ahead of the drill bit using a California modified split-spoon sampler <br /> loaded with three pre-cleaned 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves The samples were collected from <br /> monitoring well pilot borings MW1 through MW4 at five-foot intervals, beginning at 5 feet bsg <br /> using a 140-pound hammer to advance the sampler IS inches The number of blows required to <br /> advance the sampler in 6-inch increments was recorded on the boring logs Sampling equipment was <br /> washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each sannplmg run to minimize cross- <br /> contamination <br /> ' For each sample,both ends of the leading or other selected sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, <br /> capped and sealed with tape The samples were labeled,stored on ice and transported under chairs-of- <br /> custody to McCambell Analytical,Inc (MAI), a State of California Department of Health Services <br /> ' (DHS)-certified analytical laboratory <br /> ' 32 LOGGING <br /> Soil was extruded from the second brass sleeve or from the unpreserved portions of the soil in the <br /> core barrel samples and were screened for the presence of organic vapor using an organic vapor <br /> meter(OVM) equipped with a photo--iomzation detector(PID Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 0 <br /> ' eV, calibrated to isobutylene), and the OVM readings were recorded on the boring log The soil was <br /> then visually described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System(see Appendix A) <br /> 3 3 WELL AND BORING COMPLETION <br /> Borings MWI,MW2 and MW4 were completed as ground water monitoring wells using two-inch <br /> diameter PVC casing with 0 020-inch slotted screen installed from approximately 25 feet to 5 feet <br /> bsg and with blank casing extended to the surface The filter pack (No 3112 Loriestar sand) was <br /> Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc <br />
