As you can +
imagine, any remediative method aimed at only addressing the "tip of the iceberg" J
would be incomplete and ineffective and could jeopardize your ability to receive
reimbursement for the "full-range" remediation that could be required later.
PHS-EHD hereby modifies its previous directive and now directs you to submit a
workplan to delineate the vertical extent of the soil and groundwater
contamination. A workplan that addresses this requirement should be submitted
to PHS-EHD by December 15, 1997.
If the results indicate that deeper contamination does not exist, the "Workplan for
Removing Contaminated Soil" dated October 1997 will be evaluated for its cost-
effectiveness and remedial merit as originally required by PHS-EHD.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and compliance efforts. PHS-EHD
appreciates your willingness and devotion to investigate and clean up your site. Please
contact Michael Infuma at (209) 468-3454 should you have any questions or wish to
discuss your site.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Michael J.
