The very Iow levels of soil contamination found differs greatly from
the high levels of petroleum hydrocarbons found consistently in the groundwater at these same
areas.
To verify the existence of potential off-site sources, PHS-EHD required you to delineate the
groundwater plume. Results of the recent off-site Geo-Probe investigation have indicated that a
"zero-line" for the groundwater plume has been delineated and now indicates that no off-site
source exists.
The most recent groundwater gradient fluctuation is depicting both a north and south hydraulic
gradient at the same time, emanating from an east-west.line through monitoring well 2. This
latest gradient direction places you in a position of not having a down-gradient well from the
most contaminated area on your site, and if this condition continues, will require additional
well(s) to be installed.
With depth to water levels approaching the top of the screened interval in monitoring wells 4
and 5 and over the screened interval in wells 1, 2, and 3, PHS-EHD has concerns that floating
petroleum constituents cannot enter the casing and a true representation of the groundwater
cannot be obtained.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
