The downgradient
well had very minor amounts of contamination. As discussed in
the report, this indicates that either the hydraulic gradient is
not constant, and/or another source of contamination exists to
the north and west of the site. Before any program can be
proposed for remediation, additional water level measurements
must .be obtained.
It is agreed that the plume has not been defined, and additional
investigative work may be required. However, until more data has
been obtained & analyzed, it is not feasible to go through an
extensive bidding & selection process at this time. Besides, I
do not believe that the technology yet exists for successful
remediation of clayey soils such as found beneath this site. It
will take considerable time to investigate such processes, and
make recommendations to my client.
Therefore, we are requesting a four month extension, until
February 18, 1994, for submittal of a remediation workplan for
your review and comment. If we are able to proceed faster, we
will of course submit such documents earlier.
Sin/ rel
'
Wm. ter & Associates
CC' Sanchez
