existing contaminated soil and groundwater rather than install a
more expensive soil/vapor extraction system A brief outline of
a proposed approach follows
SUGGESTED PLAN FOR SITE CLEANUP
1 . Remove canopies and dispenser islands
2 . Disconnect any below ground water and utility lines that may
be present
3 Excavate an area approximately 15 ' x 20 ' x 20 ' deep as shown
on PLATE VII. Monitoring wells #1 & #3 may have to be destroyed
if excavation work indicates the need to do so Removed spoil
would either be placed at the rear of the property for aeration
and remediation or transferred to an appropriate landfill It is
estimated that a maximum of 175 yards of soil would be removed
4 . Soil samples would be taken from the sides and bottom of the
excavation and analysed for BTEX (w/MTBE distinction, ) & TPHg. A
24 hour TAT would be requested in order to minimize the time that
the excavation is left open Groundwater samples could also be
obtained for analysis from the bottom of the excavation during
this work
5 If there is sufficient inflow, groundwater which had entered
the excavation would be removed with a vacuum truck and disposed
of as required.
6 If the results of the laboratory analyses and field observa-
tions are favorable, the excavation would be filled with clean
soil & covered with asphalt, the remaining monitoring wells
destroyed, and the site closed
We will not proceed with additional work until you have had a
chance to review this report If our proposed work is accept-
able, we will begin preparation of a detailed workplan and cost
estimates for submittal to the Cleanup Fund staff for approval
Your timely review and response to this report will be appre-
ciated Please contact our office at (916) 972-7941 if you have
any question of wish to discuss our proposal in more detail .
Wm J n er & Associates
c Sanchez D GEpoC/
. eth Thayer, RWQCB
WI LIAM J HUNTER
010
